Piano Studio
Please note:  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all private lessons were conducted via a virtual format such as FaceTime, Zoom or Skype. Currently, some students have elected to begin in-person sessions in the studio. In such case, I require that students be masked.

Phil maintains a professional piano teaching studio dedicated to the nurturing of students of any age or level of expertise. He has served as president of both the Michigan Music Association and the Grand Rapids Piano Teacher's Forum, and has inspired many award-winning students through the years. Whether their ambition is to become a professional career-musician or simply to enjoy piano playing as a creative outlet, his mission is to model and nurture a lifelong love affair with music. The curriculum emphasizes the organic and diverse qualities of music, and is designed around the needs of the particular individual.

Phil currently has openings for persons eager to explore the wonders of playing his favorite instrument. His studio is located in the Boston Street location of The Piano Cottage (www.thepianocottage.com), where students are offered numerous performance opportunities, including several recitals throughout the year. Phil uses a classical teaching approach but encourages students to explore music of many periods and genres. He utilizes the Faber Piano Adventures series for beginning and intermediate students, graduating to a wide variety of curricula for advancing pianists.
